My Sourdough Saga (so far)

Sourdough fever has officially hit Seashore Flower Farm — and it all started with Stacey’s gifted starter, a $35 Dutch oven from Ocean State Job Lot, and one surprisingly decent first loaf. Between feeding my starter, baking chocolate chip muffins, and prepping for our Winter Wreath Workshops, it’s been a busy (and deliciously scented) week. Plus, tulip bulbs are arriving, heirloom mums are still blooming, and our flower stand is brimming with fall color — Cape May’s version of cozy season in full swing.

Hughie’s Visit (and the Peony Plot Twist)

We had a special visitor this weekend—my son’s dachshund, Hughie -- and as always, chaos, cuddles, and a few “accidents” followed. Plus, a little lesson in peony care that might save your fall garden from the dreaded brown blotch.

A Halloween Birthday & a Few Tender Memories

This Halloween brought back memories of my father -- a brilliant diplomat, a self-taught mechanic, and the man everyone called when their lawn mower broke. As the days grow shorter at the farm, I find comfort in remembering how light always returns, little by little.

A Cape May gardener’s shortcut to happy dahlias

End of dahlia season? Don’t grab that shovel just yet. I discovered a no-dig overwintering method that saved 99% of my dahlias—and my sanity. Here’s how to do it (and why even pros are skipping the dig).

Mahjong, Blue Zones, and the Bloom of Connection

After sharing my Mahjong musings, I learned I’m not alone — apparently, half of Cape May is ready to play! Inspired by the Blue Zones’ secret to longevity, I’m on a mission to start a Mahjong group that keeps us laughing, learning, and living longer (bonus points if we can do it surrounded by flowers).

Flour, Flowers & Friendship

Today’s update from the farm: a sourdough starter delivery that sparked a new obsession, cool-season flowers settling in, and my thoughts on Netflix stretching out Love Is Blind one. more. week. Grab your coffee and come catch up on life (and carbs) at the farm.

The Year of Water (Not the Dragon)

There’s never a dull moment at the farm! This season, it’s been the Year of Water, from leaky tanks to rebellious toilets, we’ve checked every plumbing disaster off the list. Thankfully, everything’s flowing again (pun intended), and the flowers, and workshops, are too.

From Barking Dachshunds to Blooming Fields: Life on Our Cape May Flower Farm

This week, my son and his girlfriend brought their dachshund, Hughie - my trembling little grandog - to Cape May for a vet visit. Between barking fits, a farm visit from Hooked Up Seafood, and prepping for wreath workshops, it was another perfectly chaotic week at the flower farm.
