Spring is knocking on our door, and we’re hitting the ground running! While some places are still shaking off winter, our 8a garden zone gives us the perfect jumpstart. With frost mostly in the rearview, we’re busy sowing a variety of tender annual seeds, gearing up for a season packed with vibrant blooms.

Just germinated seedlings ready for transplanting
At the same time, our cold-hardy seedlings—sown in midwinter—are thriving. Some are getting potted up for a little extra growing time, while others are ready to stretch their roots straight into the field. Watching them settle in and take off is one of the best parts of the season.
We’re also rolling up our sleeves for some serious field prep. Clearing out debris, tackling weeds, and layering on an inch of nutrient-rich compost—it’s all about giving our plants the best possible start. Happy soil equals happy flowers, and we’re here to make sure they get exactly what they need.

Steady progress on clean out
Meanwhile, pruning season continues! Our bushes and fruit trees are getting a much-needed trim to encourage strong growth and better production. It’s one of those tasks that takes time but pays off in big ways later.
This year, we’re shaking up our weeding strategy with blind weeding. Using a wire weeder, we skim the soil’s surface to disrupt tiny weeds before they even have a chance to take hold. It’s a quick, efficient way to stay ahead of the weeds without hours of back-breaking labor. We’re committing to a strict weekly schedule for every growing area, and we’re excited to see the results. Less weeding later sounds like a win to us!
And now for the part we’ve all been waiting for—flowers! Tulips and fancy narcissus are pushing up, hellebores are blooming and nearly ready for harvest, peonies are peeking out, and our overwintered flowers are waking up. It won’t be long before the farm is bursting with color and fragrance.
We can’t wait to share the beauty of the season with you. Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to peak bloom—spring is just getting started!
